Part XI: A Note on Kant (And Why Victorian Men Had Limited Perspectives)

I mostly named this page The Thing-in-Itself playfully, but let’s address the philosophy:

Emmanuel Kant theorized one could only know one’s own perception of a thing, but never the thing-in-itself—the reality of the thing.

I theorize: All dead, white, male, privileged Victorian philosophers shared a monogenous perspective, and Kant was therefore limited in his own perception.

To reveal the thing-in-itself, you must:

Believe the thing is knowable (reject the limitation)
Seek the thing (with multiple methodologies)
Strip away cultural baggage (including the assumption it’s unknowable)

Kant believed we were restricted by:

Time and space → Modern physics determined…THAT WAS A LIE (sorry, inner Maury Povich). Time and space aren’t the constraints we superimposed.
Cognitive constraints → TRUE! But these are constructs that can be deconstructed through multidisciplinary focus and conscious decision-making.

I believe: The more perspectives and lenses we gather, the more we work through collective cognitive dissonance, the more we reveal of the thing.

Also: You must first confront the thing-in-yourself before you see things as they are. If you can’t see yourself for what you are… how can you see anything else?
