Once upon a broken dream,
Hidden within a silent scream,
Before the greatest calm,
Before meaning was held within my palm…
As broken dreamers dream,
And silent screamers scream,
My mind I could not find.
To think, all those years, I’d been blind.
“Wake up and open your eyes,
For if not, you will meet your demise.
Wake up to this new blessing,
With your mind, this life is messing.”
As I opened my eyes…zoom, focus, zoom,
I scanned the entirety of my barren room.
I saw no hint of blessed happiness,
So I turned again to substance induced crappiness.
As broken dreamers dream,
And silent screamers scream,
This blessing I could not find.
To think, all those years, I’d been blind.
“Wake up and open your eyes,
For if not, you will meet your demise.
Wake up to this new blessing,
With your mind, this stuff is messing.”
Eyes close…camera battery dies…
Ignorant pursuit of higher meaning,
Ignorant pursuit of higher knowledge,
Higher dreaming – more silent screaming.
As my silent screams,
Crept into my broken dreams,
My eyes, they opened…zoom, focus, zoom
I climbed out of the drug laden tomb.
“Wake up and open your eyes,
For if not, you will meet your demise.
Wake up to this new blessing,
With your mind, this life is messing.”
One month later
I opened my eyes – zoom, focus, zoom
My life changed, a child in bloom.
With each gestating moment,
I was led to greater sentiment.
My open eyes found greater meaning,
My life no longer careening.
A little girl – my blessing.
I fell to my knees – confessing.
And in the night,
Occasionally returns my ancient fight.
I dream my broken dreams,
And scream my silent screams.
In the morn, I awake – open my eyes.
For if not, I will meet my demise.
I wake up to the greatest blessing,
And hope that with her, this life won’t be messing.
